I have looked through the content of the worksheets on iSL Collective and found that:
ReplyDelete1. I am satisfied with the wide range of worksheets avalaible on iSL Collective. It provides me with those on many aspects of English teaching, from grammar, vocabulary, reading, and even to ESP like Business English. If you are teaching English and are looking the sheets to go with the topic you teach, try stop by iSL Collective, I think you can find the helpful one. So, in terms of the range of sheets, I will give it an A.
2. Anyway, you'll see that all of those sheets are produced by different authors. If you wanna use it in your class, don't forget to check the correctness of the language. What I also like is that it shows the number of the people who have download it, so you can check the popularity of each one. If I have to grade the quality of the sheets provided, I'll give it an A-.
3. My favorite worksheet can be Weired Art by silvialefevre. It is the one that goes very well with my reading class. The reason I love it is that the content is interesting and catchy. I think the students will have fun reading the information about each piece of weird artwork such as the figures or the sculptures maded from bananas. I will divide the content into parts, let the students work in small groups, assign each member of the group to read each part and share it with their partners.
Hi Ohm, thanks for you response. I agree with you that iSLCollective is a useful page. I have been using in on and off for years. You are right about the fact that you do have to check on the accuracy of the grammar used in the various worksheets. The one I used most recently was one focusing on suffixes. I used it in a TOEIC class.

I have a looked at ISL Collective:

I think It is a very good website because It has a variety of worksheets that the teachers can download and can select what level that suitable for the students in your class. It has a variety of printables, projectables, and video lessons.
2.I give 90% for the quality of worksheets available on the site.I can see that in this website has a many popular authors so I think It has a different style and different quality so before the teachers will select to download please have a look and check before we will download and use in class. And another one that I like in this website It will show the most popular or the most download so you can see which printable is the most popular.
3.The title of the best worksheet that I was found . I like the videos lesson .Mr.Bean.Topic At the Doctor's.By MarishkaD July 10, 2017.I like because while we are watching the video it will has the question and if we answer the wrong answer it will show us the explanation. It has a variety of exercise for example quiz ,fill in the gap that the students have to type the letter in the gap .I think the students will enjoy with the lesson. It has Wh Questions that you can answer in your own words.and every question will has a solution that you can check immediately. We can download the printables but you have to register to be the member before you download on the printable it has a lesson ,plan pre-tasks and follow -up tasks and it has vocabulary list that is useful for teachers and students.
Hi Ying, thanks for sharing. That 'Mr. Bean at the Doctor's' unit sounds awesome. It certainly has a lot different facets. The humour of Mr Bean, while exploring very British situations, seems to be enjoyable to people of many different cultures. I think this is because of the exaggerated gestures Mr Bean uses and the exaggerated expressions he makes. Thanks for going into detail in describing this Mr Bean resource.

I looked at some of the English language teaching activities on iSL Collective and found that:
ReplyDeleteIn my view, worksheets on this website are generally good score range since they are wide and various levels which teachers can choose a helpful one to adapt with their class.
Also, worksheets are right quality in case they are considered carefully by teachers that they are appropriated for the stage of teaching process. They are all right.
On this website, I like a part one of grammar is Revise present simple VS Present continuous speaking activity by ConnyZ. It's provided like a game which students will revise their speaking and grammar with fun instead of asking and answering as usual.
Hi Ni, thanks for sharing. That present simple & continuous game would be fun I think. The illustrations used add humour and inspiration to talk, don't they?

After looked through an A-Z of ELT, I read B is for bad language learner, G is for Gerund, and G is for Gist. I like G for Gist the most because it’s pretty much close to what I have to teach my students in Reading and Writing classes. This section discussed about how the technique (skimming and scanning) worked in L1 and L2 also the suggestions of the tasks that fit for each activity. These can help me review my knowledge about how to teach this topic before I teach my classes. There are also some suggestions for the teacher to prepare the suitable activities for students who are learning English as a second Language as well. The suggestion also pointed out how we lead-in the reading class. It suggested that we should pre-teach the unfamiliar vocabulary or choose texts whose lexis is equivalent to the students’ background knowledge of English level. With all these suggestions we can reach the objectives of the learning outcome.
ReplyDeleteHi Somanat, thanks for your response. I am glad that you have had a look at Scott Thornbury's page. I thought you would find it off interest. Thornbury's post on reading for gist is indeed interesting. He points out limitations with the approach and suggests, as you note, that we should provide linguistically accessible texts to our students so they can explore their grammatical and discourse features.

Today I had surf on ISL collective website (ninth grade) and found that there are a lot interesting strategies (Reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and mechanics)
ReplyDelete1. For the range of worksheets available on the site, I rate it 95 percent because there are many interesting and useful topics (printables, projectables, and video lessons). The teachers can print out the worksheets for students. All these can help the teachers in their teaching and they can provide students to study when they have free time (anytime and anywhere). I’d like to suggest to the teachers who teach in primary school or schools that are far from the city to take advantages of this website. The students have fun and be enjoyable in English class.
2. For the quality of worksheets available on the site, I rate 85 percent. There are a lot interesting, useful worksheet and many levels that are suitable for students. These worksheets can promote them develop their English and for the teachers who have a lot of class to handle.
3. The title of the best worksheet that I like is the language arts (ninth grade). It contains 148 skills and when you surf in you can see read strategies, writing strategies, vocabulary, grammar and mechanics. You can choose the skill or topic to practice. There are a lot exercises that you do and check by yourself. Today I had a look on phrases and clauses topic (Is the sentence simple, compound, complex or compound-complex sentence), and do the exercise. When we do wrongly, we can have a check and see the explanation.
Hi Rin, thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading your post. The 9th grade language arts resource that you have found is indeed a comprehensive one. I would be cautious though in using this resource in my ESOL class as it has been designed with typical US primary school kids in mind. It isn't specifically targeted at ESOL learners. There are a lot of approaches and activities from the general English 'language arts' classroom that do transfer well to the ESOL classroom, though. One, for instance, is sustained silent reading. Anyway, to cut a long story short, my advice would be to use this resource 'intelligently.'

I choose ISL collective website. In my opinion ISL collective is very beneficial for my teaching. The worksheets that are available on the site can be used for many proficiency levels. I think this website has many varieties of worksheets that the teachers can adapt for their teaching and can choose the suitable levels for students in the classroom. I give 95% for the quality of worksheet available on the site. I like the idea of creating worksheets which contain guidelines and exercise together. The title of the best worksheet is grammar. Grammar is conditional sentences type 2 by aarraasshh. I really like second conditional worksheet with song, the students listen to songs and complete the worksheet using the conditional sentence type 2 and some verbs. I can download this worksheet with teaching grammar through song.
ReplyDeleteHi Khae, thanks for sharing. The worksheet you described 'sounds like fun.' I also found some other song worksheets focusing on the 2nd Conditional on the site, for instance one using the Beyonce song "If I Were A Boy."
DeleteCheers,
David
Hi, Khae I agree with you I kike activities with song because it can make students relax and improve about listening skill. There are many kinds of song there are related about grammar(Song:Some one like you A-Dele a nice song to teach simple past and quite easy to listen) and many activities many song I like it.
Delete1) I would rate the range of worksheets available on the site is 95% because iSLcollective is free ESL resources that has printables, Projectables and video lessons.each part has grammar, vocabulary, many game, other materials and You can choose the appropriate level for your learners.
ReplyDelete2) I would rate the quality of worksheets available on the site is 90% exactly,It's your good helper and another good choice for use in teaching. But before being used them, You should ensure the accuracy of the content. And some worksheet have regular patterns repeatedly
3) The title of the best worksheet I found today is Guess Who Board game because It's activate students to asking questions and giving short answers in the Present Simple tense using the auxiliary verb 'have', and the Present Continuous tense using the verb "wear". and very interesting and easy to do that.It has many pictures of mystery person. and the student always like activity and picture.
Hi Namyen, thanks for sharing. I just took a look at that board game and it is very cool. There are so many subtly different pictures. I am definitely going to use that in my class to review appearance vocabulary. I am confident, like you, that my students will enjoy this activity.

Hi Normy, thanks for sharing. I agree with you that the iSLCOLLECTIVE is a particularly useful website. You say that your favourite worksheet was one dealing with conditionals. Can you tell me more about it and who created it?
DeleteCheers,
David
I had a look on the website of iSL COLLECTIVE which includes various worksheets and activities for teaching. I always download the worksheets related with my lesson. I will comment about this website as follows:
ReplyDelete1. They're very useful for the teachers. It's an alternative for the teacher who wants to find some worksheets except the textbook because they have many appropriate worksheets for the learners and these are so beautiful and colorful that the younger learner can do. The teacher can motivate your students by using these.
2. The quality of the worksheet, I think there are many useful ones for teaching but some the teacher should check them before teaching or giving your students do because they are some mistakes and limitations. Though, you should check the correction and appropriateness.
3. Many worksheet and activities I like, but I like the most is Video lesson "In the palace world". It's for listening practice. While listening, there are some responds for the learner by completing correctly the sentence after listening at that time and putting the words in order or choosing the correct answer related with the content. That's useful for someone who improves listening skill.
Hi Bee, thanks for your response. I just had a look at the video lesson, "In the Palace World." It was interesting. How would you use it: As a class activity using the projector or as an individual homework activity?
DeleteCheers,
David
Hi David, I would like use the video lesson "In the Palace World" when I came in the class. Every student can join this altogether with my projector in the first time and then I will ask them to learn English in another section by themselves in everywhere they want to practice because all the students can access the internet in the school and their home.
DeleteOkay Bee, sounds good!

ReplyDeleteHi Tum, it seems to me that much of the content of your post has been copied from another student's post. This isn't appropriate behaviour. It is plagiarism to use another person's words as your own.
DeletePlease redo this post, but this time do it properly.
Regards,
David
Thank you, David. I like iSL Collective because of free resources and it has many worksheets which appropriate in it; grammar, song, game, vocabulary and other materials. I will search and choose worksheets from there. I think the materials from iSl Collective are good for me because it helps and facilitates for teaching. The best tittle worksheet I found today is Guess Who Board Game and it activates the students to answer the question about present simple tense with auxiliary and present continuous tense
DeleteHi Tum, try to talk about an activity no one else has. Namyen has already introduced the 'Guess Who Board Game' activity in this blog discussion. Go back to the website and see what you can find for your class!

ReplyDeleteHi Nong, it seems to me that much of the content of this post is identical to another student's post on this page. It isn't appropriate to use someone else's words like this as your own. Trust yourself. I want to know what you think.
DeleteSo, could you redo this post? Also don't forget to comment on your favourite activity on the iSLCOLLECTIVE site.
Regards,
David
I think ISL Collective is useful website for the teacher to present in the class.
Delete1. For this website, if i rate the website, I would rate it for 90% for the range of available worksheet for example grammar, vocabulary and video lesson.
2. I think the quality of the worksheet is good because there are many kinds of topic that i can choose the teach in my class. Moreover, each worksheet or topic has various examinations so students can practice for each topic by themselves. Then students can improve the topic well.
3.. My favorite worksheet is grammar and vocabulary. There are many kinds of topics that related to my lesson, for example Present continuous Tense. Students can do the exercises and evaluate the result of the exercises by themselves. So they are very effective to teach in classes.
Thanks for rewriting this post, Nong. I am puzzled by it though as it doesn't seem to be about the iSLCOLLECTIVE page. On this page there are many single page worksheets so lots of worksheets do not have "various examinations." Nor are many designed for students to do "themselves." Most are designed for in-class use and quite a number do not come with answer sheets so students can't always "evaluate the result of the exercises by themselves." What do you think?
DeleteCheers,
David
